Valdis was an elderly sorceress who was sentenced to death after she was accused of bringing sickness and suffering to her village. She was saved by Arthur Pendragon and repaid his kindness by entrusting him with the Horn of Cathbhadh.
Biography[]
Valdis survived the Great Purge and at some point gained possession of the Horn of Cathbhadh, a magical artifact smuggled to safety by the High Priestesses when Uther attacked the Isle of the Blessed.
Valdis lived to an old age and eventually settle down in a small village in Camelot. She lived there quietly until she was discovered to be a sorceress and was accused of using her magic to bring sickness and suffering to the village. She was sentenced to burn at the stake, but the execution was interrupted by the arrival of Merlin and Arthur, who determined that she had not received a fair trial and ordered Alrick to cut her down.
Arthur and Merlin took Valdis away from the village, but soon realised she was dying and stopped to make camp for the night. Merlin examined Valdis and determined that nothing could be done for her, so Arthur ordered him to make her as comfortable as possible.
Valdis thanked Arthur for his kindness and compassion and declared him to have the qualities of a true king. Because of this, she chose to entrust him with the Horn of Cathbhadh before she died (The Death Song of Uther Pendragon).
Trivia[]
- It is unknown how the Horn of Cathbhadh entered Valdis's possession, or if she had any connection to the High Priestesses (The Death Song of Uther Pendragon).
