This episode was (personal opinion) good, but had me VERY PISSED!!! First of all, the review, and then I'll explain why (in my humble personal opinion again) I didn't like it...

Merlin is worried about Mordred. Kilgharrah tells him to kill the guy before it is too late for Arthur. Arthur, Merlin, knights + Mordred visit Disir. Mordred gets gravely injured. Arthur is determined to save him, so he and Merlin visit the Disir again. The Disir tell him to either choose Mordred's life and the return of magic, or the end of Mordred's life and no return of magic. With a little persuation from Merlin, Arthur chooses the second. However, once they return, they find Mordred alive and well, which worries Merlin and Gaius.

The reasons I didn't like this episode is....

WHAT THE HELL MERLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He repeats the same grave mistake for a second time. He had his chance to shape Morgana's future back in season 2 and 3, and his actions caused her to become evil. Now he had the chance to save Mordred's life AND have magic return. Both times, he chose to listen to his stupid ol' dragon, which only made things worse! Merlin, get a clue, the guy's an old fool, not wise!!!

So, Merlin decides to have Mordred killed, AND at the same time, turns Arthur to a worse magic hater than he already was, by describing magic as pure evil and saying it must never return.

  • Oh, also, we finally saw that not only Morgana hates Arthur for the way he treats the Old Religion-he has many magic haters out there.
  • Did you guys notice that, when Gaius asked Merlin "What happened to the boy who asked me to save a druid child a few years ago?" Merlin replied "He grew up."? It is the same quote that Morgana told Arthur, when he asked "What happened to you Morgana?" and she said "I grew up". It is a parallel between the characters, showing how cruel they have become over the years, or are the creators simply not as creative anymore and can't think of more quotes? We'll never know.
  • However, I give this episode a 6/10, because everyone, and especially Colin Morgan, had a brilliant acting. I can't wait for the next episode!

  • Oh, and does anyone else think that Mordred knows the decision Arthur took, and now holds a grudge againist him? I do. Merlin, Y U NO LEARN FROM PAST MISTAKES???

Some questions to ponder on...

  • Why did Merlin advise Arthur not to unban magic from Camelot?

This is a clear sign that Merlin has not learnt from his past. But the weirdest thing about it was that Merlin did not choose the future he had longed for. I think that this shows that he cares about Arthur's life more than his dream future.

  • How did Mordred get healed?

This is one of the strangest things about this episode. Although I am glad Mordred got healed, I am definitely wondering how it happened. Did the Disir (or the Triple Goddess) do it, or was it someone else?

  • Does Mordred know about Merlin's decision and how will he act in the future?

I assume that Mordred most likely knows that Merlin chose not to heal him, and this will be one of the aspects in him turning evil? I think it most likely will be so, as we do see more and more deja vu's in this series lately.

  • Why does Kilgharrah not realise that he is to blame for Morgana (and probably Mordred) turning evil? I do not want to imply that Kilgharrah is unwise, but his advice has made Merlin make some really bad decisions, which played a part in Morgana's process in turning evil. Now as Merlin has once again listened to the Dragon, Mordred is probably on the verge of turning evil as well. Does Kilgharrah not realise what he is doing?
  • Why was the knight Arthur went to avenge not shown before in the series?

One of the weirest things about this episode was that Arthur went to avenge a knight who apparently was his childhood friend. Am I the only one who thinks it's weird he had not been shown before in the series? I mean, of course not all the knights cannot have big roles, but those that cause such big events to happen should at least appear in the series.

  • Why has Merlin not learnt from his past mistakes?

Does he not understand that his actions are one of the reasons that Morgana turned evil? Does he not know that know that listening to Kilgharrah can actually bring bad luck? Does he not realise that the way he acts to Mordred is wrong? Merlin just keeps puzzleing me lately.
