The title of this blog says it all for me.
Merlin premeried in the US last night. I swore I would not watch given I know how this ends, but out of morbid curiousity I watched 5 x 01. All it did was make me more ticked at the writers and producers on how the show ended. The scene where the dragon told Merlin it was up to him to keep Arthur's safe when Merlin learned about Arthur's Bane comes off like a joke; especially when in 5 x 13 the dragon tells Merlin that he and a dead Arthur met their destinies. It still makes me feel the show runners misrepresented the premise of the series; that it's a prequel to the Golden Age of Camelot and the beginnings of Albion. I'm also ticked that they squandered character development in the name of promoting the Arthur/Merlin bromance (the show's draw). I feel if they allow 22-24 episodes for a season, which is standard for a US show, they would have been able to flesh out back stories of main and supporting characters and wrap up plots and story arcs more cleanly. Granted an increase of episodes would not guarantee a better product, but I feel in this case it would have yielded better results.
I can't watch the rest of this season. Still glad Morgana finally got what was coming to her, but overall it's too sad.
