Anyway, my point is that, before Merlin, we had Robin Hood (I've only seen the first season, because it's the only one I could buy the dvd set for half-priced at this used place I had store credit for, though I'd love to see the last two if only I get the chance). Robin Hood ended, it would seem, right before Merlin arrived to take it's place on the BBC. Both shows had similar styles in humour, jokes, even the characters (in odd ways) were very much alike (Much and Robin DO remind me quite a bit of Merlin and Arthur, for example).
So wouldn't it be cool, I was thinking, if the next show that comes along (aside from a Merlin spin-off, since we don't know when that will be or even WHAT it will be, really), to take the family hour time slot on the BBC and later become a hit overseas and be dvds I can buy here in the USA, too, was ALSO based on legends or myths of some kind?
And why not? Fairytales are HUGE right now, still. Grimm is still on the air, as is Once Upon a Time, but those are both Amercian shows. We need more British fairytales, especially since there are no more Narnia films currently being made, or anything else similar to that nature.
So I put the question to you all... What Legend would you like to see turned on its head next for our entertainment? We've had our retellings of Robin Hood and how he got his merry men and King Arthur and how he became friends with his wizard Merlin, so what now?
Personally, I'd even be cool if they adapted a fairytale/legendish novel for a new BBC series, if they're tied for ideas that much. Snow White and Rose Red by Patrica C. Wrede could work (lots of fairies and adventures they could squeeze out of it -they wouldn't have to stick by the book 100%, they could have Rosamund and Blanche going back and forth between faery and mortal lands more than they do in the actual novel, or introduce new characters or whatever -I've heard it worked with The Lost World, so why not this one too?)
