5 x 09 - the end of the Gwen/Morgana "friendship"

We all know by now Gwen has been enchanted by Morgana to do her dirty work to try to kill Arthur so she can take the throne.  A new teaser line from 5 x 09 I think definitely comfirms it:

"“This ***** (?) was ****** (trash) in a ******’s (queen's) ****** (dress) and it will do my bidding” [I'm guessing at the asterisked words here]

The preview of 5 x 09 states Arthur finds out about Gwen with his own eyes.  He and Merlin follow Gwen to her rendevous with Morgana, where Gwen gives plans Morgana to a levy route Arthur will go on.  That when he'll be ambushed and killed.   Most likely the route will go as scheduled but they will be ready for an attack, with enough forces to try to take Morgana.  When word gets back to Morgana that this assassina…

5 x 09 Preview

I found this on Fanpop:  The preview for next Saturday's episode.  There has been a debate whether Gwen was enchanted or is working with Morgana of her own free will.  According to this article Morgana did cast a spell on Gwen, a spell from the days of the old religion.  Only the Dochraid can break it.   Gaius fills in the blanks about the magic used on Gwen to Arthur.   Merlin, as Emyrs,  goes to the crone to get the information (by knifepoint).   My guess:  Emyrs is going to change as an old woman, to be a praticioner of the old religion, to free Gwen.

I think this is the turning point for Arthur once Gwen is saved.   Despite magic being used to save his queen, his negative resolve against magic will stand firm.  His bane will take over.  …

"It's this what you wanted Morgana?"

We've seen the promo stills from 5 x 13 - Arthur, Leon, Percival, Gawaine, Morgana and Merlin taking up a sword for the final battle for Camelot.   Morgana will have some magical supporters, but to stack the deck she is going to use serious dark magic to conjure up an army to assure victory.    But once again she doesn't read the fine print and the results have devastating consequences.    She hits the forces of Camelot - and it boomerangs on her own - and her.  There's carnage everywhere, even non combatants.  That's when Emyrs comes out and gives the title line.  Morgana will see the quest for the throne leads her to rule a desolate wasteland.  She'll be queen of a mass grave.

I bring this up because on another blog some poster suggests …

5 x 09 Teasers - Oh Boy!

I got this from Fanpop.? Sounds like 5 x 09 is going to be a doozy:

The weight of royal duties can be heavier than they appear.

» ‘You stupid, foolish man! I was never yours and never will be!’

» What weapon will an unseen attacker employ?

» The raven messaging service makes a return.

» How will Merlin use his loaf?

» Whose slip of the hand will reveal a vital clue?

» This cross-dressing thing may be getting out of hand.

» ‘I think it needs a belt.’

» Who will name check a Celine Dion song title?

» Poor Timothy!

and

»

‘Sorcery has to be fought with sorcery.’

» ‘I hope one day you will find the love and compassion which used to fill your heart.’

» ‘I can’t tell you that, just ask that you trust me.’

» ‘Do you think Arthur would tolerate you for one minute…

Has the Merlin series "jumped the shark"?

For those who are not familiar with the idiom I'm using in the title of this blog, here is the definition from Wikipedia:

"Jumping the shark is an idiom created by Jon Hein that is used to describe the moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality that is beyond recovery. The phrase is also used to refer to a particular scene, episode, or aspect of a show in which the writers use some type of "gimmick" in a desperate attempt to keep viewers' interest."

I bring this up because the quality of the show is being slammed not only here, starting with the blog by Knightofheart about recycled plots, but on other sites. The commentary there is much more colorful.

If I had to choose the moment the show water-skied over …
