Welcome visitors and editors, this is the Merlin Arena! Each week, two of the most requested characters from the Merlin universe will go up against each other, in a fight that is determined by the votes of both registered users and visitors. If you have a request for future stars please leave a message on Morganaforever's user profile.
Moderation
Right now the Merlin Arena is run by Morganaforever. New fights will be posted every week, if possible, as a result of your votes. Finally, please DO NOT edit this page or change its format and content. Any user that does so without reason will be blocked. However, adding to the suggestions section and justifying your choice is essential for more democratic and correct results!
The Rules
This is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favourite or whom you think would win in a fight between the two combatants that are chosen to fight. Failure to comply with these rules will likely result in a scale from your vote being removed up to being banned from participating in future fights.
While justifying your choice, you have to type whom you want to win in bold.
Each user votes only once. An anonymous cannot abuse this either, as the vote record is assigned to your IP address.
Anonymous users have just as much right to vote as registered users.
To vote, check one bubble under the character of your choice, then click the 'Vote!' button. While you are able to select two, doing so will not result in an accurate result and defeat the purpose of the contest.

Undead aside, Tristan is still a better fighter. Myror is an assassin. Assassins tend to kill people who are not expecting a fight. If the world was their battlefield and Tristan was not undead, I may say Myror, but in a basic fight, I'd have to give this one to Tristan.

--Mithian's a princess, and it wasn't at all uncommon for them to be trained in weapons. We see some of her ability with at least a crossbow in the Hunter's Heart, a weapon that takes skill and strength to wield, particularly from horseback. Also because I love Mithian.

Freya without a thought. She has a good heart and does what is right, except when she transforms (which was NOT HER CHOICE). By giving Merlin Excalibur she helped defend against the undead army and protect Arthur. Kara, on the other hand, is selfish and vengeful and will not listen to reason even when Arthur showed her mercy twice. ~Ela

I liked Freya because she was an endearing character. Although she turned into a beast by night she felt quite remorseful the next day, because she knew she had hurt others. Her character was tragic, not only because she was cursed she had lost those she loved so early in life. Also she cared so much for Merlin that she was willing to let him go, before she would see him hurt. Freya also redeemed herself, when she told Merlin to retrieve Excalibur during Camelots darkest hour. Kara on the other hand was vengeful and filled with hate. She refuse to forgive Arthur for the sins of his father. Even after Arthur offered to let her live she she still remained bitter and hateful until her death. Her refusal to get passed her anger caused deaths for not only Arthur, but for Mordred the man she loved. I felt her character was just a catalyst to get the outcome and final ending of the series. Unfortunately, it was not a happy ending -- it was ending that cancelled out any hope of magic returning to Camelot. Sweetnatured/Nakisa

Annis is strong, powerful, independant. Ygraine is lovely, but in the end, she died as a mother, as the cause for a war. Annis's husband died, she said no to Morgana and turned the Kingdom around to ally with Camelot. I love them both, but Annis gets my vote.
Annis is a big enough person to forgive and forge friendship with Arthur. Ygraine has not proven herself to be as noble as Annis in this regard. She is always portrayed as vengeful toward Uther and distant toward Arthur (even though she is dead).

Definitely Mordred. I don't think he is mediocre with magic as Morganaforever said- in the Witch's Quickening he was apparently able to wield a crystal that Morgana was not able to wield back then. He was also able to strike without chanting a spell and knock out a High Priestess in one blow. He could easily do that to Gwaine. He also fares well against King Arthur. I vote for Iseldir; Taliesin used his magic to return, as he was the greatest Seer of the time, only to pass on a couple messages and lead Merlin to the cave. While these deeds are important, Iseldir is still a stronger man. He takes the attacks, the constant running, everything, in stride, never acting harshly nor showing anyone any sort of meanness; he keeps so to his principles that, I think, in the face of his death he would still pity and show kindness to even Uther, would he still alive. That shows a stronger sense of character, not only from his magic. And the fact that he gives this influence to his people, and that he looks after them and tries to do good to keep them safe, make him my choice, hands down. -IntoTheLight
I vote for Iseldir because he truly represents the Druids -- he's peaceful and wise. He demonstrates a sense of kindness and compassion. He also seems to be wise in how one should use their magic. I also likes how he helps Merlin. As for Talisein to be fair he only had one scene to guide Merlin to crystal cave. So there's not much to say about him. Iseldir however, seems to always appear steadfast in his wisdom and will to give guidance that is needed to protect all that is vulnerable to danger.

I like Helios because he recused Gwen and he was brave. He had throw down -- strong and BA with a sword. Cenred although handsome was somewhat slimey and a little cowardly. Julius had no idea of his intentions. To bring a dragon out of its egg you have to be a dragonlord. He'd be carrying around a big useless egg. And if it did hatch, Aithusa wouldn't listen to him, because he can't speak dragon. We also didn't see his potential with a sword. Tristan was very skilled, handpicked by Arthur to be at his side. This would be a very close match, but I would say that it would be Morgana. gone are the days where Morgana is a mere apprentince, I believe that she is a high priestess in her own right. I think that the determining factor would be Morgana's drive, Morgause lacks her sister's drive to survive. So, if the two were to fight, I'd say Morgana would ultimately win.

Edwin of course! Not only is he one of the best villains ever to appear in the show, but is also a very strong sorcerer. This is a really tough one. Mordred is winning simply due to popularity- he is a big part of the legend and plays a bigger and better role. Cornelius Sigan is simply an overpowered old spirit who doesn't even have a real body. But his power directly up against Mordred's could deal more of a mighty blow... he was said to be able to even change the tides. By himself, in another body, he managed to bring great terror upon Camelot. But he made a one-off appearance, and was forgotten about after that forever- he seemed more of a gimmick character and an attempt to squeeze in a cool scene at the end where Merlin was persuaded to make a decision whether to be a servant or turn to the dark side. So I now, with hesitation, vote Sigan. Just like Nimueh can probably beat Morgana, Cornelius could beat Mordred, but the latter in both cases are more important. Elyan is a better warrior, as he has an excellent grasp of staying alive as he manages to get himself into an absurd amount of trouble: poisoned by the Lamia, tortured by Morgana, kidnapped by Cenred, and that's just the stuff I know about. However, none of his escapades are due to ineptitude of sword skills, and they often contribute to his survival. Plus he's generally awesome and I have a soft spot a mile wide for Elyan.

Of course, Uther! Despite all the weird things and the bizzar new style of the show, in this case I hope that good will prevail over evil. Before Arthur became Camelot's best fighter, Uther was the champion. He is more experienced and presumably braver in sword fight than Mordred. Mordred relies on his magic more than on fighting skills and his magic will fail due to some unknown reason, like magic always failed in the end when Arthur was in danger during a battle. Let alone that Mordred just has to lose because he is not quite a nice person and attempts to kill Arthur. Uther has to defend and save his son once more. If not on the show, at least in this arena Uther has to win. ;-) Oh and I forgot: Uther is dead, so he fights against Mordred as a ghost. I chose Leon, because he is probably my favorite knight (having started out as a character only intended for one episode, then brought back because the fans liked him so much, then elevated to the status as one of the original Knights of the Round Table, plus he is one of the characters original to this show (in other words: not from the classic legends)). I chose Leon because Lancelot died and corpses don't fight as well as people do . . . :D. Also I just think that the reason Lancelot became a knight was because he had the spirit of one, and because he tricked Arthur. Leon had to have won fairly from Arthur's surpirsed face which indicated that Lancelot was the first person to ever trick him. While Lancelot is a great knight and definately one of the best fighters out there, I just think he relies more on tricks that Leon would be unlikely to fall for. It would be a really interesting battle though, and I think it would be really close.

This was really difficult! Ultimately, it came down to the meanings because I know the writers chose character names for a reason. Heres what I know about both names: Bayard- Derived from Old French baiart meaning "bay coloured". In medieval French poetry, Bayard was a bay horse owned by Renaud de Montauban and his brothers. The horse could magically adjust its size to carry multiple riders. Odin- Anglicized form of Óðinn, which was derived from óðr, meaning "inspiration, rage, frenzy". Tauren for me as he uses the Mage Stone which can even reflect a Sidhe energy blast. Also he would've killed Uther if it wasn't for Morgana.
I know it's the unpopular vote, but it seems to me that the logical choice would be Tauren, considering that he uses the mage stone which can reflect even a sidhe blast and he seems to have decent fighting skills. Alvaar just stands around pointing his sword at people and making dramatic speeches about freedom and power. The Mage Stone can deflect, however it can't deflect if there's nothing to deflect. Alvarr only knows basic magic. However, in combat, he tends to use a sword, and is fairly good with it. So, my vote goes to Alvarr because he would most definitely have this fight under control. And @Emily Windsnap, Tauren does not possess any magic of any kind naturally, the only powers he has are through the Mage Stone with can only deflect energy bolts. Which leaves Alvarr with the upperhand.

This is a tricky one, I think Guinevere's abilities would've grown a lot over the years. She is brave and strong-hearted, I mean, she broke into Camelot and conquered it back with the king, what a wicked queen! Morgana I choose, because she actually has real motives... Nimueh tried to kill Arthur, then said she wants Arthur to be king? Morgana has a background we care about, and clear motives. I think Morgause was a lot more powerful than Nimueh, and she trained Morgana to be stronger than her. Now that several years have passed, Morgana would probably be more than a match for Nimueh. Plus, if you put a poppet under Nimueh's bed, she'd be useless- at least Morgana has skill with a sword, that matches that of the knights of Camelot. I think Nimueh was in a separate group of Priestesses from Morgause, so I think Morgause was a lot more well-trained, even despite being a lot younger (seemingly). I choose Kilgarrah because A - he is one of my favorite characters and B - because he is much older and much more experience than Aithusa. Of course I seriously doubt that Aithusa is evil. He's what? Two, maybe three months old? That's far to young to be holding him accountable for his actions in saving Morgana. Until I see it, I refuse to believe that he did it with the intention of betraying Merlin, which in a way he can't do, seeing as Merlin is a dragonlord and can have complete control over him if he so wished to enforce his will upon him. All this debate about his loyalties has happened a little too soon for me. :-/

Also, i think that he is a pretty good swordsman, definitely better than Uther, because he was really confident when about to face Elyan and he was even prepared to face Arthur. I'm personally not a fan of either, but in a fight I would choose Uther. Agravaine doesn't seem to really display any type of honorable sword play, and feeds off of lies and backstabbing. He never really actually does anything on his own accord, Morgana's is his driving source. Uther however has managed to survive this long with sorcerer's trying to kill him? Is this really a brain worker to figure out?

While Uther is a powerful swordsman, well, his abilities would have been reduced greatly along with his psychological state after Morgana betrayed him. So I vote Agravaine. Agravaine would also get the rush of adrenaline, as the user above me has stated, that would give him reason to take down Uther... remember Uther is simply defending what is left of his poor, abused soul. In The Sins of the Father Arthur easily took down Uther due to his anger. If Agravaine were in his shoes, I would expect he'd prevail. It's a shame we didn't see Agravaine in action! I choose Arthur, because, realistically, guys do actually have more physical strength than women- it's a fact. More particularly, Arthur has had many more training sessions than Morgana, who Arthur said supposedly "brushes her hair all day", and Morgana fled the room from Arthur when her magic failed in The Sword in the Stone. Helios was brave enough to face him, while Morgana tried to get away. She is also more prone to surprise attacks, such as when she took a strike from behind from a knight when walking up the hall. Arthur is known to take well to preventing such attacks, such as in The Last Dragonlord, when he stopped the thief in the tavern room.

King Arthur
I suppose the arthurian legends don't really count when it comes to this, but they both killed each other in all the stories there is out there. (Arthur with a lance through Mordred's chest and Mordred mortally wounded him in turn,) but here it's just too many differences in the show to really know, isn't it? Therefore, I voted Arthur, because ultimately it is believed that he will return from Avalon. The fact that Mordred has magic in this version doesn't change that. He also thinks about spells and uses his head, not that Morganas dumb, I just think she would be lashing out erratically in rage instead calculating carefully in a fight. But seriously, Merlin should win because he's smarter than her, not scared to get his hands dirty and frankly more powerful despite his only "teacher" being a single book whilst Morgana was taught by a high priestess. I also think Morgana would be scared to death if she knew who he was. Lastly, being destined to be the greatest sorcerer of all time has to count for something.
