Guinevere's Family is a peasant family that resides in Camelot. Its most notable members are Guinevere Pendragon, a maidservant who became Queen of Camelot by marrying King Arthur Pendragon, and Elyan, one of the first common men to become a Knight of Camelot.
History[]
Tom, a blacksmith in the kingdom of Camelot, married an unnamed woman who worked as a maid in Sir Leon's family's household and together they had two children, Guinevere and Elyan (The Coming of Arthur).
Gwen and Elyan's mother died at some point in their youth (To Kill the King).
When Gwen and Elyan came of age, Gwen found work for herself in the citadel as the Lady Morgana's personal maidservant while Elyan left Camelot to travel (To Kill the King, The Castle of Fyrien).
About a year after Elyan left, Tom was accused of making weapons for a sorcerer. He was arrested for treason and later executed when he tried to escape from prison (To Kill the King).
Gwen's job and her friendship with Merlin put her in close proximity to Prince Arthur, whom she initially disliked but slowly came to respect. They became good friends and fell in love, but their differing social classes forced them to keep their relationship secret (The Dragon's Call, The Once and Future Queen, Queen of Hearts).
When Morgana learned of Gwen and Arthur's relationship, she, Morgause, and Cenred tried to take advantage of it by kidnapping Elyan to lure Arthur into a trap. Fortunately, though Arthur, Gwen, and Merlin fell into their trap and were captured, they managed to escape and rescue Elyan, who decided to stay in Camelot with Gwen and take over their father's forge (The Castle of Fyrien).
Gwen and Elyan were among the few people who managed to escape the Fall of Camelot. They joined Arthur's rebellion and Elyan became one of the first commoners in history to be made a Knight of Camelot (The Coming of Arthur).
After Uther died and Arthur became King, he and Gwen were able to be more open about their relationship and eventually became engaged. Morgana's manipulations briefly brought the engagement to an end when Arthur exiled Gwen for seemingly having an affair with Lancelot, but they later rekindled their relationship during the Second Fall of Camelot. They were married in its aftermath and Gwen was crowned Queen (The Wicked Day, Lancelot du Lac, The Sword in the Stone).
Three years later, Morgana kidnapped Gwen and Elyan was killed rescuing her from the Dark Tower. However, the family line is still extant through Gwen, who became Camelot's sole ruler after Arthur died in the Battle of Camlann (The Dark Tower, The Diamond of the Day).
