They're magical beings! Look at the writing on the staff!
Merlin to Arthur about Aulfric and Sophia[src]

Sidhe Staffs are magical staffs owned by the Sidhe. They use them to channel their magic and to fire deadly bolts of magical energy.

History[]

Al

Aulfric uses his staff to summon the Sidhe Elder.

The Sidhe commonly wielded their staffs as weapons to fire bolts of magical energy. Exiled Sidhe such as Aulfric and Sophia also used their staffs to cast spells and summon other Sidhe from Avalon.

When Aulfric and Sophia attempted to sacrifice Arthur, Merlin seized Sophia's staff and used it to kill them (The Gates of Avalon).

Merlin kept Sophia's staff and later wielded it against Tauren and his men. He killed or incapacitated two of the sorcerers, but was knocked unconscious when Tauren used the Mage Stone to deflect the staff's magic back at him (To Kill the King).

After they discovered that the visiting Princess Elena was a changeling, Merlin and Gaius conspired to cure her. When the Sidhe Elder learned of their intentions, he flew to Camelot and attempted to use his staff to kill Merlin in his sleep. However, Merlin dodged the attack and retrieved Sophia's staff from under his bed. With it, he was able to kill the Elder.

Merlin later used the staff to kill the pixie Grunhilda, who attempted to stop him and Gaius from curing Elena, as well as the Sidhe that the potion forced out of her (The Changeling).

Appearance[]

Sidhe Staffs are made of wood with large blue crystals and brown carrying straps. The shafts are engraved with ancient writing concerning the power over life and death, which is the heart of the Sidhe's greatest magic (The Gates of Avalon).
