The Rowan Staff is a powerful magical staff carved from the Rowan Tree that grows at the very heart of the Isle of the Blessed. It is an important artifact of the Old Religion.

History

The Rowan Staff was carved from a Rowan Tree that grew at the very heart of the Isle of the Blessed. In the days of the Old Religion, only the High Priestesses and their Blood Guard were allowed to set eyes on it.

Morgause gave the Rowan Staff to Morgana before the Great Battle for Camelot. Morgana later snuck into the castle's burial vault and used it to summon an army of undead skeletons, forcing Camelot's knights to fight on two fronts.

The Rowan Staff was ultimately destroyed by Merlin, who enchanted a sword with the power to chop it in half. Morgana later took credit for this act to avoid suspicion (The Tears of Uther Pendragon).

Abilities

The Rowan Staff carried very powerful magic. To summon an army of undead skeletons, Morgana merely had to drive the staff into the floor of the burial vault. The staff released a blast of magical energy powerful enough for nearby sorcerers to feel instinctively. The energy divided into multiple beams that struck the tombs in the vault. Shortly afterwards, the skeletons began coming to life.

In order to destroy the staff, Merlin had to enchant a sword with the power to chop it in half. After he'd done so, a second blast of magical energy was released and the skeletons collapsed into piles of bones (The Tears of Uther Pendragon).

Appearance

The Rowan Staff was a slender staff carved from rowan wood. Its ferrule was comprised of a pair of thin gold bands, and the wood between them was noticeably paler than the rest of the shaft.

The tip of the staff was carved to resemble the branches of a rowan tree with a pale blue crystal in the center. The crystal glowed when the staff's magic was activated (The Tears of Uther Pendragon).
