Miriam Margolyes is a British actress who played the pixie, Grunhilda, in the Series 3 episode, The Changeling, of the BBC series Merlin. She is best known for playing Professor Sprout, the Herbology teacher in the Harry Potter film series. Miriam Margoyles was awarded with an OBE ( Officer of the Order of the British Empire) 2001 for services to Drama. She currently resides in Australia.
- She appeared on an early series of the gameshow University Challenge and claims to have been the first person to say the f-word on British telly, after getting a starter question wrong.
- In 2010, ActionAid sent her, as a Jewish ambassador, in Palestine to gain perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, to discuss options for peace with actual citizens affected by the generations-long conflict, and to volunteer with ActionAid's outreach programs.
- She is a proud lesbian, who has been in the same committed and unwed relationship for over 43 years and doesn't think marriage, civil partnership, or any other public/legal declaration of a couple's togetherness is necessary for partnership and commitment.
