Mercenaries are soldiers hired to serve in a foreign army. Unlike knights, they are primarily motivated by monetary gain.
In times of relative peace, mercenaries may also hire themselves out to warlords or other prominent outlaws.
History[]
Lancelot worked as a mercenary after failing to become a Knight of Camelot. He eventually entered Hengist's employ, where he fought for the bandit's entertainment (Lancelot and Guinevere).
Mercenaries made up most of Cenred and Morgause's forces during the Great Battle for Camelot (The Tears of Uther Pendragon).
Mercenaries hired by Agravaine ambushed the Knights of the Round Table as they rode through the Valley of the Fallen Kings (A Servant of Two Masters).
