- “Patrol the market and the Lower Town. No one is to leave their homes.”
- — Uther Pendragon[src]
The Lower Town was a suburb in the city of Camelot. Located on the outskirts of the citadel, it was home to most of the city's lower class residents and was where many merchants, tradesmen, and craftsmen plied their trades.
Notable former residents include Queen Guinevere Pendragon, Sir Elyan, and Tom the blacksmith.
History
Merlin walked through the Lower Town when he first arrived in Camelot (The Dragon's Call).
When the city of Camelot was stricken with a magical plague, most of the victims were from the Lower Town. Uther ordered Arthur to conduct a door-to-door search for evidence of sorcery, then later imposed a curfew and ordered that the area be cordoned off to stop the disease from spreading (The Mark of Nimueh).
Uther also imposed a curfew on the Lower Town when the Curse of the Unicorn destroyed Camelot's food and water supply (The Labyrinth of Gedref).
Because of its outlying nature, the Lower Town was often the first to fall during major invasions such as the Fall of Camelot. It suffered extensive damage during Cornelius Sigan's Attack and the Great Battle for Camelot, and was set on fire during the Second Fall of Camelot (The Curse of Cornelius Sigan, The Tears of Uther Pendragon, The Coming of Arthur, The Sword in the Stone).
The Lower Town also suffered many casualties during the Dorocha's Attack. It later became a place of refuge for villagers seeking shelter and protection from the Dorocha (The Darkest Hour).
