Light Spells are incantations used to conjure or negate sources of illumination. They can be projected across great distances and are a common component in Tracking Spells.
History[]
When he was poisoned by Nimueh, Merlin conjured a guiding light and projected it to the Caves of Balor, where he used it to lead Arthur to safety (The Poisoned Chalice).
The tracking spell Morgause placed on her ring caused it to glow and produce a column of orange smoke when Morgana placed it on the ground (The Castle of Fyrien).
After Arthur escaped their conquest of Camelot, Morgause and Morgana tricked Gwen into ingesting a tracking potion that would allow them to follow her to his location. To active the potion, Morgause incanted a spell that traced Gwen's path with a trail of light. Its power appeared to fade over time, forcing her to use another spell to reactivate it (The Coming of Arthur).
While searching a village for the cause of its inhabitants' deaths, Merlin conjured a sphere of white light in the palm of his hand. The sphere dissipated when a Dorocha appeared, as the creatures were immune to magic (The Darkest Hour).
The Vilia, spirits of the brooks and streams, surrounded Merlin and Lancelot in a magical light to protect them from the Dorocha (The Darkest Hour).
After Gwaine escaped from the Saxons holding him and sixty other knights captive, the Diamair used a spell to obscure his surroundings and hide him in shadow (Arthur's Bane).
