Jane Thorne is set to play the new character, "Valdis"[1], in the upcoming Series 5 of the BBC's Merlin.

Career

Jane started her career working in weekly repertory in the 60s and appeared on television in series such as Dixon of Dock Green, Emergency Ward 10 and Comedy Playhouse. After taking a break Jane returned to the business about twenty years ago.

Now in her 60′s Jane tends to play the more alternative mature roles. She is not the grey haired sweet Grandmother type. E.g. Jane has played the rather fierce Bernarda in The House of Bernarda Alba, the 1st Weird Sister/3rd Murderer in John Cairds acclaimed Macbeth at The Almeida Theatre, the aggressive Mary Ward , who is diagnosed with Bi Polar, in Keep Taking the Tablets and the murderous Mother in Camus’ Cross Purpose.

Jane’s television appearances mirror her theatre roles and include the lazy Olive in Midsomer Murders, the unpleasant victim in Lynda la Plantes , The Commander and the Shaman in The Iceman Murder.

On film Jane has appeared in 28 Weeks Later, Paddy’s Paradise and the BAFTA winning short, September ,the last two in which she played Eastern Europeans. Jane has also worked in radio, for the BBC World Services and Danish Broadcasting. She would love to do more radio work.[2]
