- “Of course. You'll have the use of one of our guest chambers.”
- — Uther to Edwin Muirden[src]
Guest Chambers are rooms used by guests of the Pendragon family and other residents of the Citadel.
These chambers are typically furnished with a bed, wardrobe, cupboard, and a table and chairs. Some also contain additional furniture such as desks, room dividers, or dressing tables.
They are also known to have anterooms, side entrances, and fireplaces.
History[]
Helen's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Lady Helen (Mary Collins in disguise) during the twentieth anniversary of the Great Purge. Much of the furniture was made of medium wood and neutral colours were featured throughout.
Gaius asked Merlin to take a potion to Helen that would help prepare her voice for her performance. She was out when he arrived, and while waiting for her to return he discovered a poppet and a grimoire on her dressing table.
Later, a serving girl called Bronwen delivered a bowl of fruit to Helen's chambers. While tidying her dressing table, she saw Mary's true appearance in the mirror and was consequently killed for it (The Dragon's Call).
Valiant's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Valiant during the Tournament of Camelot. Much of the furniture was made of dark wood and the colour black was prevalent throughout.
After Ewan suffered a snakebite while dueling Valiant, Merlin spied on him in his chambers and caught a glimpse of him feeding a mouse to the snakes on his shield.
The next evening, while Valiant was out dining with the other competitors, Merlin continued his investigation and was nearly attacked by his snakes. Taking a sword from the weapon's rack, he beheaded one and fled the room, taking the head with him so Gaius could use its venom to prepare an antidote for Ewan (Valiant).
Edwin's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Edwin Muirden when he was employed to heal Morgana of her mysterious illness. They were sparsely furnished compared to most of the castle's guest chambers, appearing to contain only a table, chairs, and some wall decorations.
Merlin helped Edwin organize his alchemy equipment when he first arrived and later discovered that he was a sorcerer. Meanwhile, Gaius began to investigate Edwin's past and learned that he intended to avenge his parents' deaths by murdering Uther.
Gaius confronted Edwin in his chambers and engaged him in a duel, but was quickly overpowered and trapped inside a ring of fire. Merlin arrived soon afterward and Edwin tried to sway him to side, then attempted to kill him with one of the axes mounted on the wall when he refused. However, Merlin was able to repel the attack and send the axe back at Edwin, killing him and releasing Gaius (A Remedy to Cure All Ills).
Aulfric's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Aulfric when he and his daughter Sophia were invited to stay in the citadel. Much of furniture was made of dark wood and earth tones were featured throughout.
Sophia was given a separate guest chamber located next to Arthur's rooms.
When Arthur suddenly fell in love with Sophia soon after Morgana revealed she'd had nightmares of Sophia killing him, Gaius snuck into Aulfric's chambers to investigate. He discovered a magical staff before he was caught by Aulfric, whose eyes turned red when he became angry.
Soon afterward, Sophia returned from riding with Arthur and visited her father in his chambers. She was upset because she'd nearly been killed and humiliated that a feeble human had saved her (The Gates of Avalon).
Catrina's Chambers[]
These chambers were given to Lady Catrina when she and her servant Jonas sought refuge in Camelot. The furniture was made of dark woods and earth tones were featured throughout. These rooms were located one floor below Arthur's chambers.
Unbeknownst to the Pendragons, however, their guest was not the real Lady Catrina, but a troll in disguise. Finding her accommodations unbearably clean, she and Jonas spent their nights in the tunnels beneath the castle.
These chambers became Catrina's permanent quarters after she married Uther and became Queen of Camelot. Uther visited her often, and though she initially tried to avoid his affections, they later shared a romantic tryst after Catrina was unmasked as a troll (Beauty and the Beast).
Aredian's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Aredian when he was employed to investigate accusations of sorcery. The furniture was made of dark wood and the colour black was prevalent throughout.
Aredian used his chambers to interview the people who witnessed the alleged magic, including Merlin.
After Gaius confessed to the sorcery and was sentenced to execution, Merlin searched Aredian's room for evidence that Gaius had been framed. He discovered petals from belladonna flowers hidden in a cupboard and deduced that Aredian had been using them to induce hallucinations in his witnesses, making them believe they were seeing magic when they were really seeing visions.
Worried that his discovery wouldn't be enough to prove Gaius's innocence, Merlin snuck into Aredian's room while he slept and used his magic to hide dozens of magical amulets in his cupboard. He also cast a spell that caused Aredian to cough up a toad while the guards were searching his chambers, leading everyone to believe that he was a sorcerer.
As the guards drew their weapons, Aredian took Morgana hostage and held a knife to her throat until Merlin's heat spell forced him to drop it. Stumbling backwards, Aredian tripped over a box and crashed through his window, falling to his death (The Witchfinder).
Morgause's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Morgause when she traveled to Camelot to challenge Arthur to a duel. The furniture was made of medium woods and neutral tones were featured throughout.
The night before the match, Arthur sent Merlin to Morgause's chambers to ask her to withdraw. He promised to grant her safe passage through the kingdom, and that if she refused he would treat her the same as any other opponent.
Later, after Morgause won the duel, Gaius visited her chambers to treat her wounded arm. While doing so, he noticed that she wore a bracelet that bore the mark of the House of Gorlois.
She was also visited by Morgana, who asked about her wounds and admired her bracelet. Morgause offered to give it to her, claiming it would help her sleep, but Morgana declined the gift and left (The Sins of the Father).
Alined's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Alined when he attended the peace talks between the rulers of the Five Kingdoms. The furniture was made of dark woods and the colours black and red were featured throughout.
Alined spent much of his time in his chambers plotting with his manservant Trickler to sabotage the peace talks. They created a plan to make Arthur fall in love with the Lady Vivian, which would enrage her father and incite a war.
Trickler used Alined's chambers as a safe place to create a love potion, which he used to enchant Arthur. When Vivian failed to respond to his advances, Trickler also used the potion on her (Sweet Dreams).
Vivian's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Lady Vivian when her father, Olaf, attended the peace talks between the rulers of the Five Kingdoms. The furniture was made of dark wood and the colours turquoise and grey were featured throughout.
Vivian appeared unimpressed when Arthur showed her to her chambers, pronouncing them adequate and laughing at the idea of Gwen being one of Camelot's finest maids.
Arthur later visited Vivian after Trickler enchanted him with a love spell. He brought Vivian a plate of chicken and tried to court her, but she rejected his advances.
Because of this, Trickler entered Vivian's chambers during the night and enchanted her as well. He convinced her to go tell Arthur of her feelings while still dressed in her nightgown, then informed her father that he'd seen her in Arthur's chamber barely dressed. Fortunately, Merlin was able to hide Vivian and return her to her rooms before Olaf came to investigate.
However, before Merlin could break the enchantment, Arthur snuck into Vivian's chambers during the night and was caught kissing her. Furious, Olaf challenged Arthur to a duel and the prince accepted (Sweet Dreams).
Oswald's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Sirs Oswald and Ethan when they participated in the Mêlée. The furniture was made of medium wood and the colours red and gold were featured throughout.
When they first arrived, Oswald and Ethan took great pleasure in ordering Merlin around and making his job as difficult as possible. Their behaviour puzzled Gaius, who remembered Oswald as a kind and thoughtful soul.
Later, while taking their armour back to their chambers, Merlin discovered that the knights possessed a set of Stulorne Blades. Certain they meant to use them to kill Arthur during the Mêlée, he snuck into their chambers during the night to steal one of the blades as evidence. However, he was distracted by a blood crystal around Oswald's neck and discovered that the knights were actually Dagr and Ebor in disguise.
Before he could leave, however, Dagr woke up. He and Ebor cornered Merlin and took turns throwing knives at him until Gwaine arrived. They ordered him to leave, then attacked him when he refused. When Leon eventually broke up the fight, Dagr claimed that Gwaine had attacked him and Ebor and Gwaine was arrested (Gwaine).
Elena's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Princess Elena when she came to Camelot to marry Arthur. The furniture was made of dark woods and earth tones were featured throughout.
Unbeknownst to the Pendragons, Elena was changeling and her nursemaid, Grunhilda, was a pixie. Grunhilda often used the privacy of their chambers to soothe her with pixie dust and give her treats such as frogs to eat.
After Merlin became suspicious of Grunhilda, Gaius snuck into Elena's chambers to find out more about her. Grunhilda found him there and assumed that he had come to romance her, which made Gaius uncomfortable. Merlin later spied on Grunhilda and Elena from outside their chambers and discovered Elena's condition, but Grunhilda saw him leave and informed the Sidhe Elder, who tried to kill him.
The morning of Arthur and Elena's wedding, Merlin and Gaius initiated a plan to force the fairy out of her. While Merlin held off Grunhilda in the corridor, Gaius gave Elena a potion that he said would calm her nerves. However, her nervous chattering kept her from drinking it until Merlin finally defeated Grunhilda and poured it down her throat. The potion forced the Sidhe from her body, allowing Merlin to destroy it (The Changeling).
Mithian's Chambers[]
These chambers were used by Princess Mithian after Nemeth was conquered by Odin and Morgana. The furniture was made of dark wood and the colours red and gold were featured throughout.
Morgana accompanied Mithian to Camelot by disguising herself as Hilda, a maidservant. She held Mithian prisoner in their chambers and forced her to lead Arthur into a trap by asking him to help rescue her father, who was being held hostage by Odin.
Mithian made two attempts to escape Morgana and warn her friends. The first time, Morgana caught her and forced her away from the door just as Merlin arrived with some medicine. The second time, Mithian stole the key to their chambers while Morgana slept, but the witch grabbed her before she reached Arthur's room (Another's Sorrow).
