Belladonna is an herb commonly used in potions and medicines. It is known to produce a wide array of effects, including the alleviation of ulcers, allergies, and muscular inflammation, and stimulation of the heart.

Under certain conditions, belladonna can be used to create tinctures that produce hallucinations or induce deep sleep.

Belladonna Tincture

Aredian used a tincture of belladonna to produce hallucinations.

Belladonna can be used to make a tincture that, under certain circumstances, produces hallucinations. Aredian coerced a local apothecary into selling this tincture as eyedrops. When the women who bought and used the eyedrops began to hallucinate, Aredian used their testimonies as evidence that magic was being practiced in Camelot.

Aredian's first witness, Beatrice, claimed that she saw the screaming faces of drowning victims while drawing water from a well. Annie claimed to have seen a Goblin dancing in a tongue of fire that spoke to her, and Rowena said that she saw a sorcerer in the main square that made toads jump from his mouth (The Witchfinder).

Sleeping Draught

The patient is rendered into a deep sleep. It is generally used for the badly wounded.

Belladonna Wine

Merlin used a tincture of belladonna to drug Gwen's wine.

Belladonna can also be used to make a tincture that induces deep sleep. It is a powerful and dangerous drug generally used to treat the badly wounded. Its effects last for a few hours and must be administered several times a day to induce a continuous sleep, but it should not be used for more than three days, as the body will not tolerate it.

After they discovered that Gwen had fallen victim to the Teine Diaga, Merlin, Gaius, and Arthur used this tincture to drug her so they could transport her to the Cauldron of Arianrhod. Merlin and Arthur kept her continuously drugged for two days, and when the time to came to administer another dose, Merlin instructed Arthur to give Gwen no more than two drops at a time (With All My Heart).
