Morgause to the Ferryman[src]

The Ferryman is an elderly sorcerer who ferries travelers to the Isle of the Blessed.

Biography[]

Morgause and Morgana paid the Ferryman a gold coin to take them to the Isle of the Blessed on his boat. He later ferried Arthur, Merlin, and the Knights of the Round Table to the Isle when they sought to heal the veil between the worlds (The Darkest Hour).

Personality[]

The Ferryman was a stoic, taciturn individual who was mainly interested in money. He did not appear to be loyal to or affiliated with any particular group, as he showed little interest in Morgause and Morgana until they offered payment for his services, and later ferried Arthur, Merlin, and the Knights of the Round Table across the lake to stop the destruction the sisters had unleashed (The Darkest Hour).

Abilities[]

The Ferryman was able to use non-verbal magic to move his boat across the water without the aid of oars or paddles (The Darkest Hour).

Trivia[]

Mythology[]

The Ferryman may be be based on Charon in Greek mythology. Charon was the ferryman of Hades who carried souls of the newly deceased across the rivers Acheron and Styx, which divided the world of the living from the world of the dead. It was customary for people to place a coin in the mouth of a deceased loved one so that his or her soul could pay Charon for his services.

In the series, the Ferryman took Morgause and Morgana to the Isle of the Blessed, where Morgana sacrificed Morgause's life to unleash the Dorocha. The Ferryman charged them a single gold coin for the trip.
