Animal Control Spells are enchantments that influence or direct the behaviour of animals or creatures of magic. Some, such as the spell to summon the Gean Canach, appear to be related to animation spells.
History[]
Edwin Muirden used animal control spells to animate his Elanthia Beetles. He enchanted one beetle to enter Morgana's ear, causing her to fall into a coma until he removed it, and later enchanted another to enter Uther's brain and feed on it.
Merlin later used a spell to call the Beetle from Uther's ear (A Remedy to Cure All Ills).
Merlin cast a spell to kill a rat that had taken up residence in Arthur's chambers (The Labyrinth of Gedref).
When Morgana was attacked by Serkets in the Forest of Ascetir, Aglain used his magic to call them away (The Nightmare Begins).
Merlin conjured a toad in Aredian's throat while he slept. The Witchfinder woke suffering a sore throat and later coughed up the creature while his chambers were being searched for evidence of magic (The Witchfinder).
Morgause cast a non-verbal enchantment on Arthur's horse so it would be able to lead him to her fortress (The Sins of the Father).
Merlin used an animal control spell to direct a passing snake to spook Morgana's horse, causing her to fall and sprain her ankle (The Castle of Fyrien).
Morgana summoned a Fomorroh so she could use its powers to possess Merlin (A Servant of Two Masters).
When Alator kidnapped Gaius for Morgana, he commanded a horse to run away from the stables so it would look as though Gaius had left of his own free will (The Secret Sharer).
Morgana often used animal control spells to influence Nathairs, which she used to torture her prisoners (The Sword in the Stone, The Kindness of Strangers, The Diamond of the Day).
Morgana likely used animal control spells to enchant the wolves she used to hunt down and capture men who ventured into the Northern Plains. These wolves were strong enough to overpower a patrol of sixty Knights of Camelot and called Morgana when their task was complete. She was also able to harness them to a sled for transportation (Arthur's Bane).
When Arthur and his men were ambushed by Morgana, Merlin directed a nearby snake to spook a Saxon's horse. Later, after Merlin and Arthur were captured by Ragnor and his men, Merlin used his magic to influence a horse so he and Arthur could escape (Arthur's Bane).
Ruadan, Morgana, the Dochraid, and Finna often used ravens to send messages to their allies (Arthur's Bane, Another's Sorrow, With All My Heart, The Kindness of Strangers, The Diamond of the Day).
When Morgana kidnapped Gwen, she conjured venomous snakes from the earth itself. The snakes attacked Gwen and the Knights of the Round Table, spooking their horses and biting Percival and Leon.
The dark magic flowing through their veins later allowed Morgana to implant visions of the Dark Tower in Percival and Leon's minds so Arthur would know Gwen was being held prisoner there (The Dark Tower).
Morgana used animal control spells to control the Gean Canach, a powerful creature of magic that devoured the magic of others. Under her instruction, it devoured both Ari's and Merlin's magic (The Diamond of the Day).
